Discussion Starter · #1 · Apr 28, 2011 I am new too this forum so bare with me, but I got a 2004 Duramax LLY and I bought it with a surge at idle. I wish I would've noticed it before I bought it. Anyway it has 150,000 miles on it and when it idles it surges really bad. RPMs jump up about 200-400 about every 5-8 seconds.Only show this user. To me it definately seems fuel related. Replace the filter first because its cheaper and replacing it can never hurt, but if it just suddenly started this, sounds like a fuel pump. And chevys love to tear up fuel pumps. Inspect the flexable fuel lines from the tank to the fuel pump, if there is even the tinest air leak, surging, hard starting, and infrequently small drops of fuel on the driveway happen. My car has an automatic transmission. The pressure will cause the coolant to be pushed out the coolant overflow. You can check for a head gasket issue by squeezing the top radiator hose when the engine is running and right after you shut it off. You should be able to squeeze the hose very easily.
